I'm running HAVEN Melbourne on Nov 14-15. Writing a short post is often a useful check on the plan: if I can’t explain who the event is for and what someone will do there, I still have details to work through.
Answer the practical questions
For a teen game jam, someone deciding whether to attend takes more than a name and an Instagram post. They need to know whether beginners can take part, what support is available and what is needed from them. I’m trying to reduce as much friction in this process as possible, as less friction often means more signups.
Make a specific request
Sponsorship outreach is really hard. Companies require a deep level of specificity, and making our agenda align with a multi-million dollar corporation's agenda is often much easier said than done. However, the process of outreach and small requests still seems so succeed more often than not!
The planning is still in progress. I’m keeping track of replies and follow-ups alongside the promotional work. Watch this space for photos and a recap after the event!
